When we (Helen & Jerry Moser) decided that we would like to relocate from Santa Fe to Las Cruces we did as a lot of people do – visited neighborhoods and homes constructed by various builders. We still had not found an area or home that we liked.
But, then at the end of the day during one of the Showcase weekends we saw a listing for a $1,000,000 home by Phoenician Custom Homes and thought, “Oh, what the heck. It’s a bit out of our price range, but let’s see what a $1,000,000 home looks like”. That was our lucky day --when we met Shawn and Amy Stalls. Shawn told us about another home under construction that was nearby. We left Shawn and Amy and drove over to check it out. It was in the “roughed in” stage. After seeing the 1,400 sq ft interior courtyard area we both reacted with, “Now, this is a house we could love”! We visualized the courtyard landscaped with a water feature, sheltered from the winds and providing a very private outdoor space where our 4 Siamese cats could safely roam. The location was rural, which, we appreciated, with great views, hay fields, pecan trees and roosters crowing. We had found the right combination of house and locale.
Our working with Shawn and Amy was a very pleasant experience. They live up to the “Custom” in their company name, being very responsive to our preferences, wishes and wants. It truly was a collaborative effort. While Shawn handled the construction, Amy handled the “esthetics” of the home, going with us to their suppliers for flooring, lighting, cabinets, countertops, etc. to help with selections and decisions. They are the owners, so when we had questions and requests, we didn’t have to go thru construction foreman, etc. Also, very important, they did not “abandon” us after closing. Items that needed attention have been, and are, being taken care of.
Lastly, they are really nice people and have become our friends in addition to being our homebuilder.
